Diving Opens Three-Day UCLA Event

WESTWOOD – The California Baptist University dive teams opened a three-day event hosted by UCLA on Friday, with Evan Honer taking top marks for the Lancers on day one. CBU faced off with some of the top diving talent in the nation from schools such as USC, Stanford, Wyoming, UNLV, UC San Diego, Nebraska, UCLA and San Diego State.
Honer closed out the 3-meter preliminary round in sixth place with a score of 340.35. He would add a final round score of 260.85 to reach his final tally of 601.20 to take eighth place overall. Jacob Penman, fresh off a strong showing against CMS last week, was the second-highest scoring Lancer with a total of 552.80 to earn an 11th place finish.
The women were unable to qualify anyone for the final round of the 1-meter event, in a loaded competition field consisting of 43 divers from 11 schools. Freshman Paula De Moya Alvarez was the Lancers' highest finisher, recording a score of 211 to claim 26th place. Kiree Lowe was right on De Moya's heels, tallying a score of 209.3 for 27th place.

Day two of the Bruin Diving Invitational will showcase the men on the platform while the women move over to the 1-meter springboard. Admission to Spieker Aquatics Center is free for those looking to attend Saturday's preliminary rounds at 10:30 a.m. or final round in the afternoon.
