
Lancers Compete in Final Dual of 2022 Season At UC San Diego

LA JOLLA – The California Baptist University swim and dive teams competed in their final combined event of the regular season on Saturday, traveling south to challenge UC San Diego in La Jolla. The Lancers men competed hard, but the men fell to UCSD 172-117 while the women could not overcome senior day energy from the Tritons, falling by a score of 167-128.
SWIM
The Lancers grabbed a handful of victories between the lanes, including both 200-meter freestyle relay races. Estevao Hornos, Josh Walters, Matthew Niculae, Jacob Leahy took the top time for the men, finishing in one minute and 23.66 seconds, while Mia Maspers, Lauren McKenna, Vianka Hoyer, Hannah Houlton touched first for the women in 1:40.52.
Robert Moseley earned one of the two individual first-place finishes on the men's side, claiming victory in the 200 individual medley in 1:57.78. Patricia Van Law matched Mosely's accomplishment in the same race, taking first in her 200 IM event in a time of 2:13.03. Jonathan Reiter won the second, touching first in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 56.75.
Freshman Giulia Decataldo again swept the distance events, taking first in the 500 free in 5:02.92, and the 1,000 in 10:16.26.
DIVE
Lancer diving swept top-honors in La Jolla as Jacob Penman- and Paula De Moya Alvarez collected all four first-place finishes between them. Penman took the 1-meter crown with a score of 263.35 and took it to the next level with a personal-best score of 307.85 in the 3m event. De Moya cleared the field by at least 25 points in both of her efforts, winning the 3m event with a 257.01 before winning the 1m with a tally of 273.35.

The Lancers dive teams will travel to Colorado Springs to take part in the final regular-season competition of the season; the USAFA Diving Invite from February 3-5. After that, both teams will lock in for four days of madness at the WAC Championships, which is making its return to its normal host site, the University of Houston, from February 23-26.
