COLORADO SPRINGS – California Baptist University men's soccer resumed action after an idle week, traveling to Colorado to take on the Falcons of the Air Force Academy. AFA managed to take a 3-2 series lead when all was said and done after securing a 2-1 victory over the Lancers.
CBU now stands at 4-4-1 overall and 0-1 in Western Athletic Conference play. The Falcons improve to 4-4-2 and remains unbeaten in conference at 3-0.
"That's an extremely difficult place to play, and I felt it took us a bit to settle in after the long layoff, but we managed to grow into the game. The boys were right to be upset on the final goal, but that is how it goes sometimes, and so we have to focus on what we control," said head coach Coe Michaelson after the match. "That means we have to eliminate the little moments from the game that are undermining the result. We have to learn and grow and be better in that regard, but at this point our focus has to move to GCU. This is an extremely tough road trip and a split would not be a bad weekend."
Air Force wasted no time, taking an early lead in the ninth minute. The Lancers would answer later in the first half off of Arthur Rocha's first career goal in the 32nd minute.
The Falcons were the clear aggressor on Friday night, outshooting CBU 12-3 in the altitude. Their final shot of the night was the difference in the score line as Air Force scored the game winner in the 87th minute.
The Lancers are back in action on Sunday afternoon, traveling to Phoenix to take on Grand Canyon. The match is set to kickoff at 6 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+.
