Lancers Defense Clamps Down on the Highlanders, Benchmark Win for HC Rick Croy

Riverside— California Baptist University's men's basketball secured it's first win of the season against the New Jersey Institute of Technology Highlanders with a 59-43 victory at home on Friday night. A sold-out crowd was treated to a display of defensive intensity and offensive efficiency.
The Lancer's defense held the Highlanders to the lowest point total of a Division I opponent in program history, allowing 43 points on 39% shooting. The defense forced 17 turnovers and scored 21 points off of those mistakes.

Joe Quintana (16 pts) and Hunter Goodrick (14pts) started their Lancer careers with a bang combining for 30 points, five rebounds, and five assists. Taran Armstrong had another efficient all-around performance, notching 11 points, six rebounds, and four assists.
The Lancers bench gave the team a boost outscoring NJIT 22-16. CBU also held advantages in rebounding, free throws, and assists.
The Lancers put together a defensive show in the second half, holding their opponent to 17 points on 31% shooting and forcing 11 turnovers to seal the victory. They grew their lead from five points at halftime to a 16-point win.

The victory also pushed Head Coach Rick Croy to 201 career wins at CBU, making him the winningest coach in program history, passing Jerry King. Croy achieves this feat in five fewer seasons than King, coaching nearly half of his games during the DI era.

The Lancers will remain at home to face off against the CSUN Matadors on Tuesday, Nov. 15, in the CBU Events Center. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
