WEST LAFAYETTE, IN – The California Baptist University men's and women's swim and dive teams wrapped up their big fall meet at Purdue on Friday, posting strong times and scores. The men finished the competition in fourth place out of seven teams with 429 points, while the women's side took fifth place from a field of nine with 163.5 points.
Mark Kovacsics was today's leading Lancer, posting a program record time of 15:10.98 in the 1,650 freestyle race. His time smashes the previous Lancer record by nearly 10 seconds and earns Kovacsics a B-cut time for nationals. He currently owns the fourth-fastest time in the nation at that distance.
Jonathan Reiter also earned a B-cut time in his only final of the day, the 200 breast. He flirted with his personal best time of 1:56.01, touching just .16 seconds slow of matching it.
The divers closed out the competition well on the platform as three Lancer men and one Lancer woman qualified for finals on Friday. Evan Honer led the CBU pack in the finals with a third-place finish after posting a score of 320.15, good for a podium spot in third place. John Angelovic (241.35) and Jacob Penman (162.25) rounded out the top eight in the finals. Natalia Bedolla represented the Lancer women in the diving finals. The freshman finished 10th overall with a finals score of 219.85.
