STILLWATER, OK – California Baptist University women's cross country historic 2022 season came to an exciting close on Saturday morning as they competed in the NCAA National Championship race in Stillwater, OK. The course was firm and fast, but unlike when the Lancers won the Pre-Nationals race in mid-October, the temperatures at the gun read 27 degrees with a Feels Like temperature of 17 degrees and a slight headwind.
Yasna Petrova led the Lancers in their debut championship race, finishing 77th overall, scoring 65 points in the team competition. The sophomore had a good kick in the final 1k of the race, moving her up 10 spots during that stretch.

WAC Freshman of the Year Maelle Porcher finished second for the Lancers, crossing the line in 150th place overall to garner 122 points. Maja Dzialoszewska finished third among CBU runners in 169th place, claiming 140 team points.
Sophomore Emilia Mikszuta and senior Anna Mate rounded out the scoring for the Lancers, finishing in 199th and 202nd places overall to post scores of 165 and 167. Greta Karinauskaite and Marina Trave finished the Lancer roster in 214th and 238th, respectively. In total, the championship field saw 254 runners pass through the course.
As a squad, the Lancers posted a team score of 659 points, good to finish 29th out of 31 competing teams. The Lancers finished ahead of the BIG Ten's Northwestern Wildcats (714) and the BIG 12's Texas Longhorns (983). NC State won the team and individual race, led by Katelyn Touhy who finished with a course record time of 19:27.7 to pace her Wolfpack team to a winning score of 114 points.
CBU's race day squad was built around six underclassmen who all gained valuable experience for their next go at it in 2023.
The WAC was represented by two other parties, the Utah Valley women's team who finished 26th overall with Everlyn Kemboi, the 2022 WAC Women's Cross Country individual champion, finishing in 19th place to earn All-American status. Abilene Christian's Irene Rono earned an at-large bid, finishing her solo run in 110th place.
With the 2022 cross country season officially in the books, the entire team now shifts focus to the 2023 outdoor track season beginning in March.
