RIVERSIDE – California Baptist University men's basketball put together a dominant second-half performance, outscoring the Central Michigan Chippewas 44-33 to grab the 77-61 victory to move over .500
CBU opened the game on a 7-0 run, building the lead to as many as eight, but the Chippewas battled back, going on a 10-0 run after the first media timeout to take a two-point lead at 16-14. After that, it would be a back-and-forth game as neither team was more than one basket up on the other. CBU would close out the opening half on an 8-3 run to take a 33-31 lead into halftime.
The game would remain tight for a while, with CMU tying it at 42-all at the 12:12 mark, but the Lancers, led by Hunter Goodrick, would pull away after that. Goodrick was perfect in the second half, shooting 5-5 from the field and 4-4 from the charity stripe for 14 of his team-high 16 points.
Tre Armstrong and Riley Battin each broke double-digits in the scoring column, posting 14 and 12, respectively. Taran Armstrong filled the stat sheet with nine points, nine rebounds, six assists, and a pair of steals. Tim Ighoefe posted six points to go with seven rebounds. He also denied a trio of Chippewa shots, keeping pace with his season average of three blocks per game which is tied for seventh-highest in the nation.
The star of the show was Hunter Goodrick, who put together another double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds and gave the Lancers an offensive infusion off the bench. Goodrick scored all his points in the second half and chipped in a pair of and-ones to flip momentum for CBU.
