HOUSTON - California Baptist University's swim and dive teams opened the Western Athletic Conference Championship weekend in a big way on Wednesday, winning the first race of the weekend in record time. The Lancer men stand in second place of six teams after opening-day action, while the women are in sixth place out of eight.

Jacob Leahy, Robert Moseley, Remi Fabiani and Jonathan Reiter collectively smashed the previous CBU record in the 200-yard medley relay by over two full seconds to take the event win. The quad touched in one minute and 24.88 seconds, out-touching the reigning WAC men's champions of UNLV by .29 of a second.
Head Coach Rick Rowland switched up the normal crew on Wednesday night and it paid off, as the splits from Moseley and Reiter likely proved to be the boost CBU needed to take the race. This marks just the second relay victory in WAC Championship history, with the first coming in the program's inaugural trip in 2019 when Leahy and Moseley helped take the 400 freestyle relay crown.
The Lancer women also made the podium in the 200 medley relay on Wednesday, earning bronze in a time of 1:41.38. Patricia Van Law, Faith Brazil, Vianka Hoyer and Mia Maspers posted the program's fastest time of the season all the way from lane two.

On the men's side, reigning champion Evan Honer earned a spot on his fourth-straight podium on Wednesday when he scored a 316.45 on his way to a third-place finish in the 3-meter finals. Jacob Penman joined Honer in the finals in his first opportunity, finishing eighth in the 3-meter event with a score of 291.15.
