CBU Closes Out Season Against USD In WNIT
3/17/2022 9:27:00 PM | Women's Basketball
RIVERSIDE - California Baptist University women's basketball hosted a WNIT game for the second time since making the NCAA Division I transition, taking on the University of San Diego in the CBU Events Center on Thursday night. The Toreros came in with a strong game plan, eventually taking the victory in the first-ever meeting between these two programs, 76-67.
The Lancers close out the 2021-22 season with a record of 23-9. CBU finishes its four-year transition period with a cumulative record of 83-37 and a winning percentage of 63.9. The Lancers' 83 wins rank as the fourth most among the 49 teams that have transitioned since 1997-98. Florida Gulf Coast tops the list with 100 victories, followed by South Dakota State (92) and Abilene Christian (84).
Offensively, the Lancers shot well, going 27-53 (50.9 percent) from the field, but the Toreros won the rebounding battle 45-33, 19 of which came off their own misses, creating 21 second chance points for USD. San Diego also took advantage of what the officiating game them, making more free throws (18-28) than CBU shot all game (8-13).
Caitlyn Harper led the way for CBU, scoring 19 points and grabbing nine rebounds, both team-highs.
Trinity San Antonio went for a dozen points while grabbing four boards and a block and a steal.
For three seniors it was the end of a glorious era. Ane Olaeta wrapped her storied Lancer career with 16 points, five assists, one steal and one block. Britney Thomas left it all out on the court, scoring six to go with five rebounds. CBU's favorite Aussie, Georgia Dale, posted five points, two assists and a steal in her Lancer finale.
