BEAUMONT --- California Baptist University closed out its regular season on Saturday, as the Lancers completed the series sweep over Lamar with a 78-66 victory.
California Baptist was red hot all day from beyond the arc, as the Lancers knocked down a season-best 14 threes on the day. The Lancers shot 48.1 percent from the field and 45.2 percent from the 3-point line in the 12 point victory.
Five Lancers finished in double figures, as Ty Rowell was the main factor for the Lancers from deep, as the redshirt junior knocked down a season-high eight threes for a team-high 25 points. Rowell finished his day with a season-best 25 points, going 8-13 from deep with seven rebounds and three assists.
"Ty (Rowell) was special today," said head coach Rick Croy. "He's locked in right now. Our guys are really pulling together. I've been saying it, but you can see our team improving. Now, we have to go see what we can get done in Vegas."
Taran Armstrong and Tre Armstrong finished with 11 points each, while Elijah Thomas and Juhlawnei Stone recorded 10 apiece. Taran added seven assists and five rebounds to his line.
The Lancers were in control from start to finish as Rowell found his groove in the opening minutes.
Tre Armstrong and Rowell combined for five threes in the opening minutes, as the Lancers took an early 10 point lead.
The momentum continued for the Lancers at the end of the half, as Elijah Thomas sparked a 9-2 run to give the Lancers an 11 point advantage at the break.
CBU ran away with it in the second half, as the lead extended to 16 points after Rowell knocked down his seventh three of the game.
"Not only are the guys improving, but our synergy and our connection and our rhythm are improving," added Croy. "We've got to keep moving that forward and keep finding that defensive toughness. It's because that toughness that started about three weeks ago that's helped us make our move."
