The Lancers will open the UCR/CBU Classic against Harvard, a team that holds a 4-5 record on the year, currently leading the Ivy League team standings. After its conference canceled all contests for the 2020-21 seasons, the Crimson is still trying to shake off the COVID year rust as the team maintains a .236 batting average while being outscored 30-6 in its losses.
North Dakota enters the tournament at 6-14 and on an eight game losing streak, a spell that includes five shutouts. The Fighting Hawks pitching staff presently keeps an ERA of 4.28 while allowing an opponent batting average of .285. In UND's six wins, it has recorded a minimum of seven hits, but the CBU pitching staff has held 13 lineups to less than seven hits already this year.
Columbia is the second Ivy League team to make an appearance in this weekend's tournament, landing in California with a 2-7 record. The Lions' pitching staff is still trying to find its groove in its first season back since the COVID cancellation stretch. In the two CU wins, the Lion pitchers have allowed a total 17 hits, 10 walks and seven earned runs in 15 innings pitched.
