
CBU Sets Single-Season Record with 177 WAC All-Academic Honorees

RIVERSIDE – A single-season record 177 California Baptist University student-athletes earned Western Athletic Conference Academic All-Conference honors in 2021-22. Eighty-two more Lancers were added to the list as the spring sports and freshmen and transfers were honored on Wednesday.
CBU's previous record for Academic All-WAC qualifiers was 157 from 2019-20. In order to qualify for the honor, each student-athlete must have completed at least one full academic year at the school, maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 or better, and have competed in at least 50 percent of the team's contests.
A total of 15 baseball players made the grade for CBU: Spencer Bengard, Michael Carpentier, Chad Castillo, Connor Clift, Ryan Delgado, Brandon Downer, Reeve Holley, Seth Mattox, Liam Rocha, Ryan Silva, Mitchel Simon, Shayne Simpson, Jake Skipworth, Russell Stevenson and Jared Villalobos.
Dan Akin, Chance Hunter and Malik Wade gave the Lancer three more honorees in men's basketball, while women's basketball's Brittany Klaman also made the list.
Ivo Balabanov, Massimiliano Berti, Zlatko Kozuhar, Florian Le Pallec, Said Mechaal, Giedrius Valincius, Rikus Van Niekerk and Roman Zozulia all made the WAC All-Academic Teams in men's cross country and track. Mia Cabrera, Sylvia de la Pena, Paige Haynes, Greta Karinauskaite, Nadia Martinez, Anna Mate, Yasna Petrova, Emilie Renaud, Carlota Rodes and Anneken Viljoen were there in women's cross country and track, too.
Both golf teams have five individuals earn all-academic status. Luke Bartram, Sean Citherlet, John Hayes, Eeli Kujanpää and Jamies Mackie made it for the men, and Filipa Capelo, Sofia Chabon, Jocelyn Chee, Esther Lee and Hailey Loh gave qualifier for the women.
Three Lancers made the academic team in both men's and women's soccer. Kyusang Bae, Emiel Deconinck and Marcos Vasallo were there for the men, while Malia Cerdon, Neleah Dunlap and Lauryn White represented the women.
Softball was represented by Mia Alvarez, Amanda Argomaniz, Alyssa Argomaniz, Karmyna Becerra, Raegan Cheyne, Priscilla Estrada, Makayla Jordan, Katelyn Mangrello, Samantha Demyon, Michaila Harrington, Maile Olsen, Mackenzie San Pedro, Nicole Stark, Deja Westbrook, Sydney Soto, and Kenzie Yamakoshi.
Four additional members for men's swim and dive: Brendan Man, William Newman, Jacob Penman and Jonathan Reiter qualified. Women's swim and dive added eight more individuals in Megan Bocobo, Paula De Moya Alvarez, Giulia Decataldo, Amber French, Amber Harris, Lynn Henke, Christen Mayberry and Patricia Van Law.
Volleyball rounded out the WAC All-Academic Team with two more additions in Anouk van Noord and Laura Walewska.
