
Lancers Begin Big West/WAC Match-Up, Final Week of Non-Conference

PHOENIX – California Baptist University volleyball began the final week of the preseason with a match against Cal State Fullerton at the Big West/WAC Match-Up hosted by Grand Canyon on Friday.
Michalina Rola provided a season-high 14 kills and nine digs, while Paige Johnstone added 18 digs in a four-set loss for the Lancers. After falling down 2-0, CBU came close to forcing a fifth set but fell short in a 25-23, 25-21, 15-25, 25-20 loss that drops its record to 4-6 and sees the Titans improve to 5-2.
Not only did Rola set a season high in kills but did so on a .419 hitting percentage (14-1-31) and added nine digs and two aces. Johnstone had a team-high three aces and five assists, as well.
Setters Reese Reed (20 assists, 11 digs) and Leah Pease (18 assists, 11 digs) both recorded double-doubles. Sophomore Anna Jackson tied her season-high of 12 kills for the third time in 2022.
Christine Graf tallied 11 kills and three blocks, while Cassidy Dennison came close to a double-double on 14 digs and nine kills. Middle blockers Ashlyn Nevrla and Chandler Gorman each had at least three kills and three blocks.

The Lancers end the Big West/WAC Match-Up against UC Irvine on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 3:30 p.m. CBU then returns home to Western Athletic Conference play against Southern Utah on Thursday, Sept. 22 at 6 p.m.
