CBU Downs Wolverines Behind 28 Points from Schmidt

OREM, UTAH - California Baptist women's basketball complete the weekend sweep on Saturday, taking down the Utah Valley Wolverines by a score of 69-61 in Orem. Grace Schmidt controlled the game from start to finish, scoring career-high 28 points on Saturday.


Schmidt led all scorers in the game at a 60-percent shooting clip (9-15). Dorcas Wu added a dozen, all of which came from deep, with six rebounds, two blocks, and a steal. Trinity San Antonio got it done on both ends of the court, scoring 10 while grabbing five steals.


The first half was all Schmidt, who scored the opening two and final three field goals of the frame for CBU. The visitors owned a four-point lead after 10 minutes. Her dominance continued into the second as she scored another six consecutive points for the Lancers, accounting for 13-straight for CBU during a stretch of roughly seven-game minutes.

That would translate into an eight-point lead for the Lancers at halftime. The Wolverines would open the second half on a mission, cutting the CBU lead to two points. The Lancers would storm back and go on a 13-2 run after that. The biggest lead of the day for the Lancers would top out at 17 in the fourth quarter before coasting to the eight-point victory.

CBU has now won four of their last five games are within reach of correcting their record. The Lancers currently sit at 7-8 on the season with a 3-1 Western Athletic Conference tally. They will begin a three-game home stretch next, welcoming the reigning WAC champions Stephen F. Austin to Riverside for the first time ever.
