1/12/2023 9:14:00 PM | Women's Basketball
RIVERSIDE – The California Baptist University women's basketball played a demanding midweek contest against Stephen F. Austin on Thursday night, eventually falling to the Lady Jacks 79-64.
Three Lancers' broke double figures led by a team-high 16 points from Kinsley Barrington. Dorcas Wu wasn't far behind with 15 points but stuffed the entire stat sheet with nine rebounds, three blocks, two steals, and a game-high four three-pointers. Trinity San Antonio was the final Lancer to break to mark, pouring in 11 points with four assists, three boards, and a steal.
The Lady Jacks held a slim two-point after a hectic first quarter despite going on an 11-0 run before the media timeout. The Lancers closed the frame strong, holding SFA without a field goal for nearly five minutes while closing on a 10-3 run. CBU would take a four-point lead into the locker room after a solid finish to the second quarter.
The second half saw the Lancer turnover issue become their downfall as CBU relinquished the ball 14 times, leading directly to 25 Lady jack points. Foul trouble also checked the Lancers, forcing them to go smaller than SFA for much of the last two quarters, which allowed the Lady Jacks to win the rebounding margin in the second half 25-13.
The Lancers will have the weekend off before continuing their homestand next Thursday, January 19, against Seattle U at 6:00 p.m. in the CBU Events Center.
