SANTA CLARA - California Baptist University men's water polo kept their winning streak alive on Friday, pushing it to seven in a row after a 21-4 drubbing of Long Island University. The Sharks' lackluster result came as they scored exactly one goal in each period, while CBU poured it on in the second half, netting 14 of their 21 goals in the third and fourth quarters. LIU suffered from an egregious effort during their powerplay opportunities as the Lancer defense held them to only one goal in 12 tries.
Wyatt Bugbee and Thomas de Wit each recorded a hat trick on Friday. Marcus Lodewyk (one goal, three assists), Touring Stanley (two goals, two assists), and Ian Escoto (four assists) led the squad with four points each.
Trevor Benge started the game in goal for Head Coach Kevin Rosa, stopping one shot and getting credit for a steal, while William Whitstone came in for the rest of the game, stopping six.
The Lancers are playing with unbridled confidence, riding the high of a seven-game heater as they prepare for a much tougher slate on Saturday. Tomorrow's doubleheader will start at 9:20 a.m. against #16 Fordham, followed by a tilt against #18 Harvard at 1:20 p.m.
