
CBU Continues Strong Showing at WAC Championships

EDINBURG – California Baptist University men's and women's swim and dive teams put in the work on day three of the Western Athletic Conference Championships and were rewarded with four more trips to the podium. The Lancer men currently reside in third place with 382 points after Saturday's completion, behind reigning WAC champions UNLV (586) and Grand Canyon (415.5). The women find themselves in sixth place on Saturday night with 222 points, with Northern Arizona (642), Grand Canyon (426), and a surging Utah Tech (329) making up the top three.
Saturday's medalists began with Remi Fabiani giving the 200 free a go, coming in second in the event with a time of 1:33.72, breaking his own program record in the process. Jonathan Reiter also earned a silver medal but in the 200 breaststroke, touching in just 53.21. Fabiani and Reiter doubled their silver medal count in the night's final event, teaming up with Robert Moseley and Simeon Rinkenberger to finish ahead of Grand Canyon in a time of 3:09.88. Michaela Trnkova was the women's representative on the medal stand tonight, earning bronze in the 100 backstroke in a time of 53.99, improving on her second-best program mark.
Moseley made it into the A Finals for the 100-fly event, touching the wall in 47.75 seconds for a seventh-place finish. Fellow senior Faith Brazil earned her way into the finals of the 100 breast, claiming eighth place with a time of 1:02.93, improving on her second-best program mark. Rinkenberger doubled up on 100 backstroke competitions on Saturday, taking seventh in the 100-yard backstroke race before swimming the same distance and stroke as part of the medley relay team. Finally, Natalia Bedolla posted a platform score of 222.15, earning fifth place in Texas, just 27 points behind the gold medalist, showing the quality and depth of the field.
Tomorrow's final day will see the WAC programs compete for the final 12 gold medals, 11 between the lane lines and one on the diving platform, where the men will culminate the aerial portion of the event.
