Lancers Take Down North Dakota to Advance in the WBI

LEXINGTON – After a deep run in the WAC tournament, the California Baptist University women's basketball team competed in the Women's Basketball Invitational for the first time in program history. The Lancers came away with the 96-79 victory over North Dakota to advance to the semifinals in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
Freshman Grace Schmidt showed out in Lexington, dropping 26 points on a uber efficient 11-13 shooting from the field. This game featured five Lancers' in double figures. Joining Schmidt was Sila Finau (18), Brittany Klaman (16), Trinity San Antonio (13), and Dorcus Wu (11). As a team, CBU shot 50.7% against the Hawks, their second-best clip of the season.
CBU never trailed in the game, opening on a 16-6 run and never letting the lead fall to less than five at any point of the 40 minutes. The Lancers went on runs of 7-0 or better six times in the game to keep the Fighting Hawks at a distance in the score column.
The win gave CBU its 20th win of the season, marking the third straight season they have achieved the mark in the Division I era. The Fighting Hawks finished the regular season 18-11 and lost to Nebraska Omaha in the Summit League Quarterfinals as the No. 3 seed.
The Lancers will take on the winner of Georgia Southern-Northern Illinois in the semifinals. That game will tip at 4:30 p.m. PT on Saturday, March 18th.
