ARLINGTON – The Western Athletic Conference has released the final results of the 2022-23 Commissioner Cup, with Grand Canyon (66.0 points) earning this year's title for the third-straight year and the fifth time in six years. In its fifth year of eligibility for the title, California Baptist University claimed eighth place (34.5 points) of 13 institutions.
The Lancers finished between Seattle U (35.0 points) and WAC newcomer UT Arlington (31.5 points) in the rankings. California Baptist earned most of its points in the Fall thanks to another historically successful men's and women's cross country season, as both teams earned six points each. Women's basketball (four points), men's swim and dive (four points), and women's golf (three points) were the next highest-scoring Lancer teams. The final 2022-23 point allocation can be found on the WAC website.
Points are awarded in order of finish in each sport, with six points to the winner, five for second, four for third, three for fourth, two for fifth, and one point to all teams that finish sixth or lower. An institution that does not sponsor a specific sport does not receive any points. Only the regular season is counted for the sports of soccer, volleyball, football, basketball, tennis, softball, and baseball. For the sports of cross country, indoor track & field, swimming & diving, golf, and outdoor track & field, points are determined using the WAC's championship results using the six-point per sport scoring system. Affiliates are used as a placeholder in the standings or championship results but are not scored in the overall Commissioner's Cup standings.
Any team (except for golf) that earns an NCAA AQ from a WAC Championship is also awarded one bonus point.
