Swim and Dive Split Action Between Malibu and Westwood

MALIBU/WESTWOOD - California Baptist University men's and women's swim & dive took part in a second straight day of competition, this time with the swim side traveling to Malibu to take on UC Santa Barbara and UC Davis, while dive took on a stacked lineup at the UCLA Diving Invitational. The men's swim squad lost a heads-up dual with UC Santa Barbara, 173 - 88, while the women took on UCSB and UC Davis, dropping the duals 179 - 82 and 195.5 - 63.5, respectively.
Three Lancer men claimed four victories on Saturday, led by a double win from distance king Mark Kovacsics, who won the 500 and 1,000 freestyle in four minutes, 35.18 seconds, and 9:25.50, respectively. Brendan Man added to the win total, taking the 100 butterfly race in 49.40, while Andrew Teh claimed the 200 butterfly crown in 1:51.00.
Sofia Maksimova claimed the women's only outright win of the day, taking the 50 freestyle race in 23.39, winning by a comfortable .41 second margin.
In Westwood, a pair of Lancer men competed in Saturday's platform competition. True freshman Nathan Warson dove well in the prelims but fell a handful of points short of qualifying for the finals, taking 18th place with a score of 217.60. Freshman phenom Mario Del Valle took second in the prelims and kept that silver position in the finals, posting a two-round score of 746.85. He finished less than 20 points behind Andrew Bennett from Minnesota, an NCAA Championship finalist from a season ago.
While swim's week is complete, the divers have one more day of competition ahead of them as the men will move back to the boards at the 1-meter level while the women move to the platforms.
