RIVERSIDE - On Monday, California Baptist University women's basketball guard Khloe Lemon was announced as the Western Athletic Conference Player and Newcomer of the Week. This is the first time a Lancer has swept the two awards; the second time this season, it has happened on the women's side.
The freshman phenom posted a career-high 28 points home on Saturday night to lead the Lancers in a rout of Southern Utah, 93-67. The point total matched the freshman single-game scoring record against a Division I opponent, and Lemon joins teammate Grace Schmidt at the top of that list.
Lemon got there efficiently, shooting 12-17 (70.6%) from the field and 3-6 (50%) from distance. She had a hand in things all game long, adding five rebounds, two assists, and two steals to her stat line.
In an exciting turn of events, fellow Lancer Dominique Daniels Jr. joined Lemon in a historic week by also sweeping the men's awards, the first instance of this happening in WAC history.
The Lancers are home again next week for a pair of games. Thursday will be their annual Education Day game, which is set to be their biggest yet, with over 4,500 local elementary students expected to be in attendance. The Lancers will host the University of Texas Rio Grand Valley Vaqueros for that game, which is set to tip at 11:00 a.m.
