WBB PREVIEW: Lancers Open Home Schedule Against Pepperdine

RIVERSIDE - The California Baptist University women's basketball team returns home after a tough road trip to open the 2024-25 season. The Lancers traveled to Eugene and Lynchburg, Virginia, to take on the Ducks and Flames, falling to both.
Returning to Riverside to play in front of the home fans will be a welcome change of pace as they not only took on two top-tier teams but also crowds of 4,100+ and 1,300+ during their trip. CBU will open the home slate with a familiar foe in Pepperdine on Saturday, November 16, with tipoff set for 11:00 a.m.
PEPPERDINE AT A GLANCE
The Waves will face #5 UCLA before their trip to Riverside, so their 1-1 record will read differently when the ball tips in the Fowler Events Center. CBU lost its first-ever meeting against the Waves in the WNIT back in 2019 but are 3-0 against them since, including a hard-fought 60-57 win in Malibu a season ago.
The Waves were just 1-15 in the West Coast Conference a season ago, notching it up to 5-25 overall when all was said and done. Pepperdine was predictably picked to finish 11th out of 11 WCC teams this season after losing three of their top four scorers from last season. In the small sample size from 2024-25 so far, scoring is balanced with no "go-to" threat making herself known. Four Waves are averaging between 9.5 and 8.0 points per game as the team has averaged just 57.5 ppg so far but are doing so with some efficiency, shooting 41.1% as a squad.
