FORT MEYERS, FLORIDA - California Baptist University women's basketball dropped Saturday morning's contest against Penn, 64-51, to wrap up the FGCU Homewood Suites Classic. The Ivy League representative improved to 6-3 on the season, while CBU is still searching for its first win after eight games.
Grace Schmidt poured in a game-high 20 points on Saturday while grabbing 11 boards to make it a double-double. Emma Johansson added her third double-double of the season to the books, scoring 10 with 12 rebounds. Anaiyah Tu'ua posted 11 points and a game-high seven assists.
Defensively, it looked like it would be a different outcome after three-and-a-half quarters, as the Lancers had held Penn to just seven points scored in the second and third quarters and tied the game up at 51 with 4:45 to go in the fourth. Unfortunately, the Lancer shooting went ice-cold after the fourth quarter media timeout. CBU would go 0-7 from the field and 0-6 from deep, while the Quakers found their stroke again, going 4-4 down the stretch.
The Lancers return to the Golden State for their next matchup, facing #6 Southern California on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 6:30 p.m. That game will be live on the Big Ten Network.
