RIVERSIDE - California Baptist women's basketball returned home after a five-game away stint to host the UC San Diego on Saturday afternoon. The Lancers came in severely shorthanded, dressing just seven players for the contest, and eventually fell 81-58 to the Tritons.
Grace Schmidt and Sydney White paced CBU with a dozen points each, with White's contribution coming as a career-best for the sophomore. Nia Anderson also posted a career-high as she broke double-digit scoring for the first time as a Lancer with 10 points. Claudia Fiel was a workhorse on Saturday, playing all but two minutes and 45 seconds of the entire game, as she put up seven points and five assists. Anaiyah Tu'ua was everywhere for CBU in 30 minutes of action, posting a statline of eight points, eight boards, five assists, a block, and a steal. Hailey Long saw the most minutes of her young CBU career and made the most of them, putting up a career-high seven points and two rebounds.
The Lancers struggled for three quarters to find their offensive rhythm, getting outscored 76-36 in the opening 30 minutes. The Lancers found it on both ends in the fourth, dominating the Tritons 22-5 in the final frame, even after UCSD returned their starting lineup onto the floor before the media timeout.
The Lancers return to the floor on Tuesday, December 17, to host Middle Tennessee State. The Blue Raiders are currently ranked No. 4 in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll and boast a top-60 NET ranking through ten games this year. That contest will tipoff at 6:00 p.m.
