RIVERSIDE - California Baptist women's basketball hosted Middle Tennessee in the penultimate contest of 2024 on Tuesday night. The Lancers posted an excellent second half, but a dominant first half from the Blue Raiders was too much to overcome as MTSU left with the 74-54 victory.
Grace Schmidt led the way on offense, getting hot in the second half, where she drained all three of her three-pointers on the night, ending the night with a game-high 21 points. Anaiyah Tu'ua was the only other Lancer to hit double-digits on Tuesday, finishing with 12 points and a game-high seven assists. Emma Johansson played well against the reigning Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year down low, filling her stat line with eight points, six boards, two blocks, and a career-best four steals.
Tuesday night was a game of two widely different halves. MTSU was locked in for the opening 20 minutes, shooting 52.9% (18-34) from the field and 50% (5-10) for long range, forcing 14 Lancer turnovers to take a 45-18 advantage into halftime.
The second half was controlled by CBU, who won the second 20 minutes 36-29 with separate runs of 15-2 and 8-0 and 45% shooting and just four turnovers.
The 2024 slate comes to a close on Thursday afternoon as the Lancers host Texas Southern before heading into the Christmas break. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. at the Fowler Events Center.
