ARLINGTON, TX--- Dominique Daniels Jr. of the California Baptist University men's basketball team picked up his first Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week award for the 2024-25 season following an offensive showcase this past week.
Daniels Jr. averaged 26 points per game over a three-game span, including the Acrisure Holiday Invitational and a road game at the University of Central Florida. His heroics against Fresno State helped the Lancers pull out a double overtime thriller and he was able to set a new season-high in scoring twice during the award-winning week.
Daniels Jr. began the week by scoring 16 points in a narrow loss to SMU at the Acrisure Holiday Invitational. CBU would not leave the desert empty-handed after the loss to the Mustangs in the opener, as Daniels Jr. would play hero ball in a double overtime thriller against Fresno State in the Third Place Game. Daniels Jr. would score a then season-high 29 points in the game, including connecting on a 35-foot jumper that sent the game to the first overtime. In the ensuing overtime periods, Daniels Jr. scored 12 points to help CBU ultimately secure the victory.
Daniels Jr. followed up his heroics against Fresno State by resetting his season high on the road against UCF on Sunday afternoon. Daniels Jr. poured in 33 points on 11 made field goals while accounting for 70% of CBU's total offense. He scored 20 of CBU's 29 in the first half alone to keep CBU within one possession of the Knights. He would score 13 more in the second half as the Lancers lost to the BIG 12 squad 74-59.
Daniels Jr. and the Lancers will be back in action on Wednesday, December 11 against San Diego State.
