RIVERSIDE--- The California Baptist women's basketball team hosted Utah Tech on Saturday afternoon, coming away with a gritty 73-65 win for their tenth win at home this season. A pair of 21-point quarters would give the Lancers their sixth straight win and eleventh conference win this season.
Chloe Webb led all scorers through the game with 22 points, notching four steals and seven boards through 36 minutes on the court. Kinsley Barrington posted her second most points in a game against the Trailblazers, knocking down three triples, eight field goals, and a pair of free throws for 19 points. Anaiyah Tu'ua and Nae Nae Calhoun both finished with nine points each, with Tu'ua coming up big in the fourth period and Calhoun staying consistent throughout the entirety of the game.
Triples were the name of the game on Saturday for the Lancers as Barrington knocked down a three in the first 20 seconds of the game to set the tone. CBU would push their lead to as many as 10 through the first quarter, but a steady Utah Tech team managed to find points in the pain to keep them seven through the first frame.
The second quarter was the lowest scoring for Lancers, posting just 14 points to the Trailbazer's 18. A dropoff in triples saw the Lancers knocking down just one compared to their previous six in the first quarter, and five points in the last minute by Utah Tech put them within three before the break.
A second-half push from CBU ultimately secured the win, combining for 38 points in the third and fourth periods. The Trailblazers managed to stay within five points of the Lancers through the third frame, but a 17-2 run by CBU halfway through the fourth pushed a 16-point lead that was never relinquished by the home team.
Jarrod Olson's squad was just two buckets away from their season-high 15 triples, converting 13 with the majority coming in the fourth period. The Lancers maintained a fast pace of play and earned 18 points off fastbreak opportunities, compared to Utah Tech's seven. California Baptist is now 19-2 on the year and 11-1 in conference play, holding second place in the Western Athletic Conference standings.
The Lancers are set to face Utah Valley on Thursday night in Orem at 5 p.m., before hosting WAC leaders Grand Canyon on Saturday afternoon at the Dale E. and Sarah Ann Fowler Event Center with tipoff at 1:00 p.m.
