SYDNEY--- Former standout guard Taran Armstrong of California Baptist University men's basketball was selected for the Australian National Team.
Armstrong, who currently plays for the Cairns Taipans in the National Basketball League in Australia, has now made the Australia National team for the second time and will join a very talented squad.
The Boomers, as they are known, are set to play South Korea in a 2025 FIBA Asia Cup qualifying game on Thursday, February 22, at the Red Energy Arena in Bendigo, Victoria. The Boomers feature an array of young Australian talents such as Brisbane Bullet Rocco Zikarsky, former Kentucky Wildcat Isaac Humphries, and Saint Mary's standout Jordan Hunter.
Armstrong played two seasons for the Lancers as the starting point guard and guided CBU to back-to-back 15+ win seasons. Armstrong averaged 11 points and nearly six assists per game over his two seasons, leaving an incredible impact on the program. Armstrong was named the 2022 Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year and was a Second-Team All-WAC selection in 2023. Armstrong recorded the only triple-double in program history as a freshman with 16 points, 12 assists, and ten rebounds in a win over San Jose State.
