ARLINGTON, TX--- The Western Athletic Conference announced the current Commissioner's Cup standings last week following the completion of the winter competition season. California Baptist currently sits in second behind Grand Canyon after a pair of successful women's basketball and swim and dive seasons.
The Lancers registered 90.0 points after Jarrod Olson's squad secured the WAC Tournament Champions title at the New Orleans Arena in Las Vegas and made the program's first NCAA Tournament appearance as the WAC's automatic qualifier. CBU also placed third in the WAC Men's Swim and Dive Championships, pushing CBU into the second-place ranking. GCU sits atop the standings with 104.5 points, while Utah Valley follows behind California Baptist with 70.9 points.
The WAC awards its Commissioner's Cup to the school that performs the best in a countable 14 of the conference's 20 men's and women's sponsored sports from an academic year. Points are awarded by aggregate scoring based on regular season and/or championship finishes depending on the sport and the number of institutions that sponsor the sport. An institution that does not sponsor a specific sport does not receive any points.
