RIVERSIDE - California Baptist University women's basketball standout Chloe Webb has solidified her basketball future, inking a deal with Esgueira Aveiro with the Portuguese First Division. The team plays its home games in Aveiro, Portugal, about two hours and 30 minutes north of the capital city, Lisbon.
Webb finished her time at CBU with record numbers across the board. Her 20.7 points per game rank fourth all-time, and her 662 total points rank fourth in the single-season category. Though it spanned just two years, Webb's career has been among the best for the Blue and Gold. She will go down with the fifth-highest points-per-game average, 16.3, in program history. Webb ranks in the top three of no less than a dozen single-season and career categories in the Division I era.
Founded in 1956, Esgueira Aveiro has found success recently, reaching the Portuguese League semifinals in 2023 & 24, the Portuguese Cup semis in 2022, the Federation Cup semifinals in 2024, and winning the Division I championship in 2021. The team is predominantly made up of Portuguese players. However, the 2023-24 roster included four other Americans.
Webb is joining a squad with five teammates who averaged double-figures in 2023-24. She averaged a Division I-era single-season best 20.7 points per game last season for CBU; Webb's volume would still be the best by a significant margin as the top scorer who played a significant amount of games checked in at 12.2. Her 7.9 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game would also rank third from last year's team. Webb seems to be a significant addition to the squad.
"Not many people continue to play basketball after college, and I'm just happy that I still can continue to play, better yet, play in a beautiful country like Portugal," Webb added about her future playing overseas and adjusting to the European style of play. She said, "I feel like once I begin to practice with my team, I'll then know where to adjust and hopefully do so pretty smoothly."
Webb ships off to Europe in the first week of September as league play starts on October 6 at home against Vagos, against whom Esgueira Aveiro holds a three-game winning streak.
