
Lancers Fall on Day One of the Lipscomb Invitational

NASHVILLE--- The California Baptist University women's volleyball opened up the season at the Lipscomb Invitational, falling to the host school in three sets.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Lancers and the Bisons traded blows to begin set one, with an Eliana Posada kill giving CBU its first lead at 5-4. From that point, Lipscomb caught fire and would score 12 of the next 14 points to force a pair of Lancer timeouts. The Bisons would eventually close out the inaugural set with a final score of 25-12.
The second set was far more competitive, with CBU controlling the tempo out of the gate. An ace by Kali Wolf and a thunderous kill from Madison Gilliland would give CBU a 7-5 lead as the LAncers attempted to fend off the 2-0 deficit. The Bisons would once again flex its offensive firepower, with an 8-2 run to regain momentum. CBU would come right back at them with a 6-0 run to tie the match 16 apiece, highlighted by a massive swing from outside hitter Mia Jerue. Lipscomb offset the run with three quick points to ride out the 25-22 victory in set two.
Lipscomb would close out the match in straight sets with a 25-17 win in the final set to defend their home court.
STATISTICAL NOTABLES:
Posada led the offensive attack for CBU, with ten kills off the bench for the Lancers. Wolf, Nicole Mauser, and Jerue all chipped in five kills, and Wolf would add three aces in the service game for CBU. The three aces for Wolf would give her 100 career aces and add to her impressive career resume. Freshman Avery Barber stepped in for the Lancers and would lead the team with 14 assists in her first collegiate action.
NEXT: The Lancers will continue at the Lipscomb Invitational as they take on Belmont University at the Curb Events Center in Nashville, TN, on Saturday at 4 PM PT.
