LOS ANGELES, CA--- The California Baptist men's water polo team headed to Loyola Marymount this weekend to participate in the WCC/Big West Challenge and opened with a 14-9 loss to #4 Pepperdine. CBU moves to 3-5 on the season, while the Waves improve to 8-1 on the season.
California Baptist started strong, scoring four goals in the first period from four different Lancers. After the Waves answered with a trio of goals, CBU led 4- 3 heading into the second quarter. It was in that quarter that Pepperdine began to pull away after limiting the Lancers to just one goal while finding the back of the net three times.
The Lancers continued to stay tight with the Waves after entering the third period down by just a single goal. CBU upped their attack and tripled the number of goals from the previous quarter, but Pepperdine maintained pace and scored four goals to keep their lead by two. The fourth quarter saw a 4-1 run by the Waves that secured the game, stifling CBU's offense.
Toring Stanley,
Caleb Teraoka, and
Bodhi Bowden picked up a brace in the pool versus Pepperdine, while Willaim Whitstone ended the evening with six saves between the pipes. The Lancers will return to LMU's pool for a pair of games tomorrow versus Cal State Fullerton and #8 UC Irvine.
