Lancers Split the Final Day of the WCC/Big West Challenge

LOS ANGELES, CA--- The California Baptist men's water polo team wrapped up the WCC/Big West Challenge play on Saturday after splitting the day and ending the weekend 1-2. The Lancers opened the day with a 15-7 convincing win over Cal State Fullerton before dropping a competitive game against #8 UCI 17-15. CBU drops to 4-6 on the season.

CBU 15 - CSUF 7

The Lancers kicked off the day with a decisive win over the Titans and started right from the get-go, holding CSUF to no goals in the first period while finding the back of the net four times. The Titans finally earned their first pair of goals in the second period, but another four goals gave CBU an 8-2 lead heading into halftime.

Fullerton did not go quietly and came back in the third period with a vengeance, scoring four goals while limiting the Lancers to three. CSUF was ultimately unable to make the comeback, and CBU kept piling on the goals for a solid 15-7 win. Logan Puhl was named man of the match for his performance after picking up a hat trick during the first game of the day.

UCI 17 - CBU 15

CBU carried the winning momentum into their final game of the weekend against UC Irvine and scored a trio of goals to keep the Anteaters within one heading into the next quarter. Bodhi Bowden kicked off the scoring in the second period, but the Lancers would be held to just a pair of goals through the eight-minute quarter by the UCI defense.

After trailing the Anteaters by three at the half, California Baptist continued to chip away at UCI's lead and netted five goals, with a pair coming from Puhl alone to put CBU within one. The Lancers continued their attack and tallied another five goals in the fourth period, but UCI's six-goal final quarter lifted the #8 team to its fourth win this season.

California Baptist returns to the pool on Thursday as they battle Biola and Concordia Irvine in a doubleheader, beginning at noon at each school's respective aquatics center.
