RIVERSIDE, CA--- The California Baptist University cross-country squad concluded its non-championship season on Saturday morning as both teams earned podium finishes at the Highlander Invitational.
The Lancers' top eight athletes on both sides competed yesterday at the Nuttycombe Invitational and would employ their depth for the Highlander Invitational as they faced solid teams from Arizona, Grand Canyon, and UC San Diego in a 26-team field for both the Men's 8K and Women's 6K.
Ahmed Faris, running unattached, would be the race champion for the second time this season on the men's side after doing so a few weeks ago at the Riverside Invite. For the countable scores, Roberto Castro Lara would be CBU's top placer in 13th with a time of 24:02.4. The Lancers would have four other racers in the top 50, including Mathias Oliveros, Eric Perez, Nicolai Martino, and Manual Rojas, to help earn a team podium finish.
On the women's side, CBU would finish second in the team standings behind only UC San Diego. The Lancers would have three in the top ten, including a fifth-place finish from freshman Isalys Huet. Sophia Clarkson and Luz Arias would also be top ten placers with times of 20:44.6 and 20:45.6, respectively. Eleonara Visnevskyte and Lamiae Mamouni both secured top 50 finishes to help the Lancers earn the second spot on the podium.
NEXT: The Lancers will open up postseason action on November 1 as they head to Arlington, TX, to compete in the Western Athletic Conference Championship.
