RIVERSIDE--- The annual Western Athletic Conference preseason honors were announced on Wednesday afternoon as the California Baptist University women's basketball team was picked to finish second in the conference.
The Lancers are coming off an injury-plagued 2024-25 campaign in which they finished 12-19 overall and 9-7 in WAC play.
CBU received the most first-place votes in the preseason coaches poll with four, but would collect one fewer point than Abilene Christian in the final rankings to finish second. The Lancers will be led once again by Head Coach Jarrod Olson, who is entering his 14th season at the helm of the program, and will look to guide the team to its third WAC title since 2021 and take his team back to March Madness as he did in 2024. Olson will have a solid group of returners, including Grace Schmidt, Emma Johansson, Khloe Lemon, Filipa Barros, and reigning WAC Freshman of the Year CeCe Legaspi.
Notably, Barros, Lemon, and Schmidt all missed significant time due to injury, but were all key figures in CBU's March Madness run in 2024 and are expected to take on a significant roles on Coach Olson's team this season. Lemon was named to the 2025 All-WAC Preseason Team this season alongside Peyton Hull and Meredith Mayes of ACU, Jakoriah Long of Tarleton, and Amanda Barcello of Utah Valley.
CBU opens up its 2025-26 season on Monday, November 3, against UC Riverside at 5 PM.
