RIVERSIDE --- Guard Dominique Daniels Jr., the Preseason WAC Player of the Year, is adding another award to his collection as the conference announced its first weekly awards on Monday. Following his work in the Lancers' 2-0 start, Daniels Jr. has been named the WAC Player of the Week.
The honors are Daniels' fifth with the program. He was also named WAC Newcomer of the Week in the 2023-24 season.
Daniels Jr. led the Lancers in scoring last week, posting 19.5 PPG on a 47-percent shooting performance. He also set up the scoring, dishing out an average of 6.5 assists per game.
CBU opened the season on Monday night with an 87-75 victory against South Carolina – Upstate. Daniels Jr. dropped 23 points in the win, with 15 of them coming in the second half. He also matched his career-high of six assists.
That career high was surpassed on Friday, as Daniels Jr. dished out seven assists in the Lancers' 69-61 road victory against UC Irvine. On the offensive end, Daniels Jr. scored 16 points on 7-of-17 from the field. He scored CBU's first basket, a 3-pointer, to end an 11-0 run by UCI to start the game, and then later added a transition dunk to give the Lancers their first lead of the night.
CBU is off to a 2-0 start for the third season in a row, and they will look to post their first 3-0 start since 2021 this Friday when Western Illinois comes to town. The meeting with WIU will be the first in program history, and it is scheduled to tip off at 7:30 p.m. inside the Dale E. and Sarah Ann Fowler Events Center.
Fans who purchase a ticket to Friday night's game will also receive admission to the women's game against San Jose State, which starts at 5 p.m. Tickets are on sale HERE.
