LOS ANGELES, CA--- The California Baptist University track team showed out in the 1.5K's at the Bob Larsen Distance Carnival on Friday night, racking up multiple personal bests and several podium finishes.
The 1.5K was the only event the Lancers competed in at the race, posting runners in six heats in both the men's and women's fields. The women were up first to begin the evening, with 12 runners competing in three heats from slow to fast. In the second heat, Ceyda Pinar collected the first podium finish for the Lancers with a time of 4:31.03. The time beat her previous personal best time of 4:35.11 that she set a few weeks ago at the Ben Brown Invite. In the fastest heat of the evening, Laura Acuna and Ava Dyck were impressive in a loaded field that featured several UCLA runners and some unattached competitors. Acuna finished second in the heat and overall with a new personal best time of 4:20.89, beating her previous time by nearly 12 seconds. Acuna's time is the third-fastest in program history. Dyck was also impressive, finishing 6th with a time of 4:27.54.
On the men's side, the Lancers would field an 11-man squad across three heats in the 1.5K. In the slowest heat, Talon Rodriguez would pace the CBU contingent with a fourth-place finish and a time of 3:55.35. In the second heat, Ernesto Ruiz would take home the top spot with a time of 3:51.68, while Adam Trefecanty would earn a top-five finish at 3:53.73. In the fastest heat of the evening, the CBU men would impress as Pedro Marin and Daniel Abdala continued their impressive season with a 1-2 finish in the heat. Once again, it was a strong kick from the two runners that secured the victory as they would overtake the group over the final stretch of the race. Marin would win the race with a new personal best time of 3:43.37, while Abdala finished right behind him with a time of 3:43.75. Marin and Abdala's times were the fifth and sixth fastest times in program history.
