FEDERAL WAY, WA - A trio of California Baptist University men's swim and dive student-athletes opened their pursuit of a 2025 NCAA National Championship on Thursday morning.
Junior Mark Kovacsics got things started for the Lancers in the first event of the morning, the 500-yard freestyle race. Kovacsics finished the second heat in fourth place in a time of four minutes and 19.19 seconds, a mark that would place him 42nd overall.
Remi Fabiani took to the pool next for the splash and dash, the 50-yard freestyle. He entered the race with a top-25 time in the 62-man field and finished 22nd in a time of 19.07.
Finally, the Lancers' sole diving representative at NCAA's this year, Mario Del Valle, began his three-day run on the 1-meter springboard. The sophomore scored 301.65, earning him 30th place in the field of 48.
Friday will have just Fabiani and Del Vale competing, with Remi putting his best effort into the 100-yard backstroke, while Mario and the rest of the men's diving field move up to the 3-meter springboards.
