
CBU Opens up the Bryan Clay Invite on Wednesday

AZUSA, CA--- The California Baptist University track team kicked off the Bryan Clay Invitational on Wednesday with a handful of athletes competing in the 10K's and Steeplechase.
The Lancers had four athletes in competition at the Cougar Athletic Stadium for the prestigious Bryan Clay Invitational, beginning with Karolina Bliujute and Talon Rodriguez running in the men's and women's open 10K's. For Bliujute, it was her 10K debut, and she would place 11th in the 58-runner field with a time of 35:14.73 and ninth in her heat. Rodriguez would compete for the men in the 10K and would come away with a 26th-place finish. It was Rodriguez's 10K debut for CBU, and he finished at 30:37.67 in the 54-runner field.
Ernesto Ruiz would have the most impressive performance of the day in the men's open steeplechase, competing in the event for the second time this season. Ruiz would place fifth in his heat and 22nd overall at 8:51.01. The time would be a new personal best for Ruiz, besting the previous time he set at the Stanford Invite by two seconds and placing him in fourth in the Lancer history books. Adam Trefecanty would close the evening in the Men's 10K Invite in the toughest field of the day. Trefecanty would be up against a handful of All-Americans in the race and would place 25th in his heat with a time of 29:32.84.
NEXT: CBU will continue on to day two at the Bryan Clay Invitational, competing in the 5K's and 800's.
