AZUSA, CA--- The California Baptist University track team began its final weekend of regular season competition on Friday evening as a handful of athletes competed at the Franson Last Chance Invite on the campus of Azusa Pacific University.
CBU only ran two athletes on Friday evening, with Petra Sara Kiss running in the Women's 800M and Ava Dyck competing in the Women's 10K. The Lancers added their name to the competition pool as they seek to gain a few more West Regional qualifying times.
Kiss started the afternoon in the Women's 800M, competing in the 8th heat of the nine-heat event. Kiss was 0.26 seconds off a new personal best time that she set at the Occidental Invitation last weekend and would take fourth place in the heat. Overall, she finished 12th out of 55 runners in the field and was ninth among the collegiate runners in the race.
In the final event of the evening, Dyck would make her 10K debut as she looked to earn a new personal best time and a possible regional qualifier in her spectacular true freshman campaign. Dyck was incredibly poised in the race despite the high temperatures and would put together an impressive performance. Her finishing time would be 34:27.73 and would cruise to the victory in the race, coming in ten seconds clear of her next competitor. Dyck would be four seconds off a regional bid, but would place her 8th in the program record books in the Women's 10K.
NEXT: The Lancers would look for regional qualifying times in the 1500M and Steeplechase as they conclude the regular season on day two of the Franson Last Chance Invite on Saturday evening.
