RIVERSIDE, CA--- The California Baptist University cross-country squad took its talents across town as they competed in the annual Riverside Invite hosted by UCR.
The Lancers sat their top ten runners on both teams after sweeping Roy Griak last weekend and would still record top eight team finishes on both sides, with the Women placing eighth and the Men coming in fourth.
The Women's 6K would kick off the early morning with six women competing for the Lancers. Ana Mees was highly impressive, finishing fourth place with a new personal best time of 20:24.1 to pace CBU. Mees's time was much faster than last season at the same meet, shattering her old personal record by nearly two minutes. Eleonara Visnevskyte and Lamiae Mamouni would both record top 60 times on the women's side, with Visnevskyte coming in 36th and Mamouni at 56th. Lindsie Fausett would round out the top four placers for CBU with a time of 21:28.2. With only six competing athletes, the Lancers would finish eighth in the team score.
In the Men's 8K Invite, the Lancers would feature a little of its depth, with its top ten runners coming off a dominant performance at Griak a week ago. Nine Lancers would run for the blue and gold in total, and they would finish fourth in the team standings, just a few points behind Long Beach State and Pomona-Pitzer, who would finish on the podium. Freshman Ahmed Faris ran unattached but would take the gold medal in the race with an impressive time of 23:28.5. Mathias Oliveros would be CBU's top official finisher in 18th with a time of 24:12.0 while Manual Rojas would be just behind him in 25th at 24:21.3. CBU would have three more runners in the top 60 including Talon Rodriguez, Kevin Sandoval and Nicolai Martino.
Concluding the morning would be the women's open 5K, where four Lancer runners would take to the course. Petra Sara Kis would be the best finisher in that race, placing 25th at 18:25.2, while her teammate Olissa Onley came in at 28th at 18:28.9.
NEXT: The Lancers will set their eyes on the Nuttycombe Invite on Friday, October 17, in Madison, Wisconsin.
