IRVINE, Calif. – Junior Pedro Marin earned his second Big West Male Athlete of the Week award as the CBU men claimed their fourth Big West weekly honor of the season.
The Lancers have earned the award every week a CBU athlete was nominated this season. Marin has won twice, while junior Itumeleng Ngxabazi and sophomore Yemane Mulugeta have each earned the honor once.
Marin secured his second award following a stellar performance at the Under Armour Pre-National Invitational in Indiana last weekend. Competing against a strong field of 339 runners, Marin placed eighth overall with a time of 23:25.0. He finished just eight seconds behind the first-place finisher and 12 seconds shy of his personal best.
The Colombian native has been a standout performer for the Lancers throughout the season. He has recorded two top-10 finishes at nationally competitive meets and placed second at the Cougar Challenge. Marin and the Lancers will look to carry that momentum into the Big West Championships on Oct. 31, where the junior will contend for the individual title as CBU pursues the men's team championship.
