RIVERSIDE--- Maddie Brown and Anaiya Campbell of the California Baptist University women's volleyball team earned their first Big West Player of the Week honors this week as they were named Setter and Rookie of the Week, respectively.
The Lancers are coming off a 2-0 week as they swept the Crosstown Showdown in ten total sets in a home-and-away contest against the UCR Highlanders this past weekend.
Brown earned the first Setter of the Week nod for the Lancers this season after leading the Big West with 102 total assists across ten sets. Brown totaled 51 assists in both matches, setting a new career best mark for assists in a single match. Brown would also reach a career milestone on Friday night against UCR as she would cross the 1,000 assist mark, becoming the fifth Lancer in the DI era to reach the milestone. Brown had 51 assists, 11 digs, and a season-high four aces against UCR on Friday night and would follow that up with 51 assists, 8 digs, 2 kills, and 2 aces in the home win over the Highlanders on Saturday night.
Anaiya Campbell would earn the third Rookie of the Week honor for the Lancers after teammate Nalanie Neal earned the first two of the season. The Munich, Germany, native had a career game on Saturday night against the Highlanders, recording 24 kills on a .417 hitting percentage to lead CBU to the five-set victory. Campbell came in late in the match with six of her kills in the fifth set to help close out the Highlanders 17-15 in extra points. Her 24 kills tied Nalanie Neal for the most by a freshman in the DI era and the second most in total in the DI era for the Lancers. Campbell was also effective on the Friday night win with seven kills in just three sets after coming off the bench for CBU.
Brown, Campbell, and the Lancers will be back in action this weekend in Riverside against Utah Valley and Sacramento State.
