STEPHENVILLE, TX--- The California Baptist University women's basketball team extended its win streak to four games on Thursday evening as it bested the Tarleton State Texans 77-67 in Stephenville.
The Lancers remain undefeated on the road in conference play at a perfect 5-0 and move to 9-1 overall in the Western Athletic Conference standings. The loss for the Texans drops them to 11-11 on the season and 5-6 in the conference.
Filipa Barros continued her hot streak of shooting in the opening minutes of the game, connecting on her first four shots from the field, including a pair from distance, to help the Lancers to the early advantage. The Lancers would lead by six early in the second quarter, but the Texans would pull within one very quickly with a 5-0 run. CBU would close the half on a 13-2 run led by a 7-0 personal run by Lauren Olsen to take a 44-32 lead into halftime.
The Texans had their best stretch of play in the third period, quickly slicing a 12-point halftime deficit to one possession five minutes in. Barros would quell the momentum with a deep triple on the ensuing possession as the Lancers would stave off the Tarleton momentum and push the lead back up to eight points at the end of the third period. The Texans would continue to nip at the Lancers' heels in the early going of the fourth period and would eventually tie the game for the first time since the opening minutes at 61-61 with 5:24 remaining.
Tarleton State would take a brief lead at 63-61, but it would be all Lancers from that point forward as CBU would go on a 12-0 run over the next four minutes and change to close out the Texans 77-67 at the EECU Center.
Barros and Khloe Lemon led the scoring charge with a combined 41 points on 14 made field goals. Barros netted 22 points and led all players with 13 rebounds. Lemon was critical off the bench with 19 points on 50% shooting from the field and would grab a season-high seven rebounds as well. Olsen contributed her usual 15 points while Grace Schmidt had a near double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.
NEXT: The Lancers will continue their Texas road trip with a trip to Abilene on Saturday, February 7, to take on the Abilene Christian Wildcats for an 11 AM PT tipoff at Moody Coliseum.
