2005: Hinz, a 2005 sophomore, will be a backup setter again, and may help at a number of other positions.
COACH McGUYRE SAYS: "Tyler brings a ton of energy to the team. He’s skilled at a lot of different positons, so he’ll help us as a utility player. Some days he’ll dig and serve, other days he’ll swing and set."
2004: Served as the backup setter as a 2004 freshman ... Played in 24 games and had totals of 60 assists, 13 kills and 20 digs ... Had double-digit assists three times ... Passed out a season-high 22 assists vs. Calumet (2/13) ... Had a double-double with 17 assists and a season-high 10 digs vs. Lees-McRae (3/9) ... Saw a bit of time at outside hitter, getting four kills apiece vs. Lees-McRae (3/9) and at Hope International (3/30).
HIGH SCHOOL: Graduated from Valley Christian High School in San Jose, Calif., in 2003 … Played three years of varsity volleyball … Made All-CIF Central Coast Section second team and All-West Catholic Athletic League first team as a senior … Made All-League second team as a junior … Named league’s top sophomore and All-Section honorable mention … Team placed second in the section championships his senior year.
CLUB: Played two years with Bay to Bay Volleyball Club.
OTHER: Majoring in English with a minor in mathematics at CBU ... Enjoys beach volleyball, surfing, reading and playing video games … Sports hero is former football great Reggie White.
