Tonight, he surpassed his 2006 season total in the opening set of the Lancers' 30-24, 30-18, 30-25 win over Holy Names.
Mendoza ended with a career-high 11 kills on 17 swings against just 3 hitting errors (a .471 percentage), and tallied 9 kills and zero errors in his first 11 attempts of the match, including a 7-0-8 showing in the opening set.
The win snaps a 4-match losing streak to start the season for the Lancers, who improve to 1-4. California Baptist's first NAIA opponent of the year, Holy Names, drops to 2-1 on the season.

Baliaba finished with a match-high 13 kills and hit .409 (13-4-22) overall.
After Holy Names pulled its game-one deficit to 24-25 on a block by Drew McDowell and Erik Joller, the Lancers capitalized on a Hawks service error, as Romain Vetter and Dan Buehring combined for a block to make the score 27-24.
A pair of service aces from Urs Gunthor fueled a 6-0 California Baptist run in the second set, as the Lancers all but put the game away at 23-14. The Hawks struggled to a .038 (10-9-26) hitting percentage for the set, while California Baptist sent home 12 kills against 2 errors on just 20 attempts (a .500 clip).
Baliaba's 9 kills in the closing set sealed the deal for the Lancers, who were handed 6 unforced hitting errors in the 30-25 match-clinching win.
Eric Plunkett had 20 assists and a pair of kills on just 3 error-less attempts, as Buehring dished out 11 assists.
