
LANCERS HAVE DOUBLE VISION

COSTA MESA, Calif. ? California Baptist University continued its longest winning streak of the year by defeating Vanguard 3-1 (30-24, 30-26, 23-30, 30-15) Tuesday night. The second-ranked Lancers (15-2, 8-1 GSAC) recorded their eighth win in a row with the victory over the sixteenth-ranked Lions (6-8, 4-5 GSAC).
Three Lancers recorded double-doubles as Shi Fei, Yudelka Bonilla and Verania Willis all had double figure kills and digs. Fei recorded 15 kills and 15 digs while Bonilla had 16 kills and 20 digs. Willis led the pack with 24 kills and 13 digs for her fifth straight double-double. Katrina Clark also reached double figures in digs with 20. Kayla Van Duyn dished out a match-high 49 assists while Willis had a team-high five blocks and Rachel Gowen notched four. Colleen Sweeney also recorded three blocks
CBU used four kills by Willis in the midst of an 8-1 run as the Lancers took a 21-19 lead. CBU used a 6-1 run to take a 27-21 lead before closing out the opening game.
The Lancers opened game two with a 5-1 run, but began to close the gap eventually getting within one at 24-23. CBU pulled away down the stretch using two kills by Willis and another kill by Bonilla.
Vanguard didn't go down without a fight winning game three, but CBU rebounded in game four and outscored the Lions 22-8 after leading 8-7. The Lancers hit .471 in the final game.
The Lancers get to return home Saturday when they host No. 5 Biola inside of Van Dyne Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
