RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- For the second time this year, freshman Jacquelyn Witz has been named GSAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
It is the fourth time this year that a Lancer has won the award. Witz won it back on Sept. 10. Lindsey Merrett on Sept. 24. Lizzy Bendrick won it Oct. 15.
Last week, Witz had two goals and an assist, factoring in all three CBU goals last week as the NAIA's No. 17-ranked Lancers went 1-0-1 to close out the regular season. In a 2-1 win over Biola, Witz scored the game's first goal and then assisted on Merrett's game-winner.
She then followed that up with the game-tying goal in the 77th minute of a 1-1 double-overtime tie at Westmont. That was the first time since the season-opening 3-1 win over Oklahoma Baptist that the Lancers came back from a deficit.
CBU finished the regular season 12-4-1 overall, 7-2-1 (22 points) GSAC, claiming sole possession of second place. It was the Lancers' best conference finish since 2002 when they finished second at 8-1-1. The Lancers are the second seed in the NAIA Region II Playoffs and will host Vanguard Wednesday (Oct. 31) at 1 p.m.
