FRESNO, Calif. ? Shi Fei tied a career-high for kills ripping 21 in a 3-0 (30-23, 30-20, 30-21) win over No. 3 Concordia in the semifinals of the NAIA Region II Tournament. Fei hit 21 kills in a five-game match last season against Fresno Pacific, but Friday's match set a career-high for a three-game match for the sophomore from Nanjing, China.
Fei hit .390 (21-5-41) and notched a double-double with 12 digs as the Lancers (27-3) moved into the championship game against No. 1 Fresno Pacific with the win over the Eagles (26-5). Vera Willis also recorded a double-double as she hit 15 kills and recorded 10 digs. Kayla Van Duyn had a match-high 37 assists while Katrina Clark had 18 digs. Yudelka Bonilla also recorded double-figures in digs with 12. Colleen Sweeney and Willis each had four blocks.
Concordia led just once in the entire match and that was at 4-3in the second game. It didn't matter much because the Lancers hit .483 (15-1-29) in the second game on the way to another rout of the Eagles. Of the three times these two have played this year, the Lancers have won nine of the ten games played.
The Lancers now prepare for a 1-2 showdown in Fresno, Saturday, at 7 p.m. The Sunbirds have won both meetings including a five-game thriller inside of Van Duyn Gymnasium, Sept. 8. FPU also won 3-0 in Fresno, Oct. 13.
