OAKLAND, Calif. — It has a to be a good sign of things to come for California Baptist University that junior Brenna Hahn is starting to get back to full strength. After spending the first six games on the bench due to an injury, Hahn has increased her points scored for three straight games. Saturday, Hahn scored a season-high 15 points for the Lancers (6-3) in a 64-49 win over Holy Names.
Hahn had nine of those points from the free-throw line after going 9-for-14 from the charity stripe. She also pulled down four rebounds
For the second straight night, Heather Couzens led CBU in scoring with 20 points. Couzens was 8-for-11 from the field and hit all four free-throw attempts. The senior was also just a pair of rebounds short of a double-double with eight and had a game-high four steals. Bryana Williams also pulled down eight boards and had three blocks while Monique Calvello had 10 points and six points.
CBU struggled from the field, hitting just 37.3 percent from the field and had just two 3-pointers the whole night. The Lancers did force 26 turnovers and out rebounded the Hawks 48-39.
The Lancers just led by four, 31-27, at the half and watched an 8-point lead drop to two at 37-35 with 15:13 left in the half. That's when Calvello sparked a 10-0 run that was capped by a Hahn field goal to give CBU a 47-35 lead. The Hawks but the lead down to 47-40, but the Lancers answered with a 15-1 run to take their biggest lead of the night at 62-41 and held on for the win.
